Dragons and damsels… an August Bank holiday adventure

Rain may be forecasted but it is still warm enough for a family day out before school goes back.So why not prepare a picnic, pack your waterproofs (and sunscreen!) and get set for a wildlife adventure at Denmark Farm?

40 magical acres of woodland trails are completely free to explore. Young imaginations will be set alive by a mini-beast hunt or a search for mythical dragons or fairies.Tiptoe past the meadows to spy real dragonflies and damselflies dancing over the grass and ponds.

Waymarked pathways lead you into the woodland to a hidden roundhouse where a wide window allows you a secret view out on the trees.

For those with a love for larger beasts, stop to admire the gentle Highland cattle grazing the flower rich meadows.

Go in the opposite direction to discover the new timber hide built on the banks of the lake with a roof designed to mimic the feathers on a birds wing.

On a practical note, two compost toilets are available on site  (one nestled in the woods by the campsite and one in the wildlife garden). Dogs are welcome to join in your adventure, but we do ask that they are kept on leads, and that you clear up after them.

So come along and enjoy this quiet nature reserve away from the stresses of everyday life, open your eyes and immerse yourself in nature.

Dip into Nature on Sunday 12th June

On Sunday 12th June we will be holding our annual Open Day & Green Fair.

If it is wildlife that interests you then there will be pond dipping with freshwater expert Dolly, as well as 40 acres of trails through meadows and woodland yours to explore. Grace will be carving a pond life ‘mural’ beside the spectacular new lakeside hide.

Visitors enjoying exploring the meadows

Everyone is welcome to come along for guided walks, children’s woodland activities, demonstrations, information, stalls and refreshments. Stalls include a ‘Plant & Seed Swap’ table where you can exchange one of your own plants for another, creative textile recycling, feltmaking, some inventive bicycle displays, and if you bring your own bike, you can learn how to carry out basic ‘tweaks & adjustments’. As well as this you can enjoy storytelling with an environmental theme, pony rides and a whole range of craft demonstrations.

The event starts at 11am and runs until 4pm. There will be a small entrance charge of £1 adults/50p children.  Please get in touch if you’d like any additional information.

The best campsite in the world?

Probably!

The  Eco-campsite opened at Easter, and we were thrilled to read the feedback left by one of our visitors:

“Wow! The most perfect campsite we (two adults) have ever been too! Peaceful, beautiful countryside, with so much wildlife (bats, butterflies, birds (some of which I had never seen before!) which all make the most amazing noises to fall asleep/wake up to! There is a lovely walk around the nature reserve too.

Loved the compost loos (one very close to the tent in the woods) and solar/rainwater showerblock, and the kitchen hut complete with gas stove (and whistling kettle!). We had glorious sunshine all weekend, but the hut would be very useful in inclement Welsh weather. Picnic benches save bringing table and chairs with you. We had the whole site to ourselves on a bank holiday weekend – amazing!”

May 30 to June 4th is National Camping week,  so come and find out if it’s the most perfect campsite you’ve ever been to!

More information is available on our website http://www.shared-earth-trust.org.uk/ecocamping/en/  pitches are still available throughout the summer (advance bookings only please).
